On the evening of August 18th, the fifth concert of the 2024 Toronto Harmony Music Festival, titled “Sonar Melodies of Dreams” Instrumental Night, was grandly held at the Markham Theatre in 22 Esna Park Dr, Markham, ON L3R 1E1, Canada . This event is hosted by Fengcai Arts Association and co-organized by more than 20 local active instrumental music groups. As the finale of the music festival, the directors put a lot of thought into this performance. The concert was both energetic and powerful, combining individuality with grandeur. The opening act was a lively and dynamic drum ensemble titled “Wake” by the new generation. It was followed by a unique performance by the Angel Band’s “Toronto Mountain-Water Ensemble.” The only dance performance of the evening, “A Laughter Amidst the Vast Ocean,” integrated elements of qin music, singing, and sword dance, featuring unique character design, choreography, and music arrangement. The Toronto Wind and Silk Ensemble’s performance on the hulusi (a Chinese wind instrument) was filled with a refreshing ethnic flair, while the accordion performance by the New Aurora Art Troupe evoked a strong sense of nostalgia. A grand chorus composed of several associations performed Dr. Zhang Xiaoyan’s original work “The Light of Mother’s Parents” and other pieces. The North American Chinese Orchestra and the Youth Orchestra brought classical instrumental pieces such as “Stepping High,” and the grand finale featured a joint performance of “Yi Jian Mei,” “Hometown Under the Moonlight,” and “Descendants of the Dragon” by a large ensemble and choir, bringing the music festival to a perfect close.
